Celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 and Vishwa Hindi Divas at the Embassy of India, Lima on Monday, January 9, 2017
The Embassy of India in Lima in association with Asociacion de Amistad Peru-India celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 at the Embassy on Monday, January 9, 2017. The Embassy also celebrated Vishwa Hindi Diwas on the same day.
Charge d’Affaires Mr. Arup Kumar Saha read out excerpts from Prime Minister’s inaugural address of 8th January to the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bengaluru highlighting the important policies and initiatives aimed at the Diaspora. He also discussed the ongoing programmes of the Ministry and the GoI for the Indian Diaspora and encouraged them to take maximum benefit of the programmes. He also encouraged the Indian community to come up with ideas to strengthen Mission´s engagement with the Diaspora. Charge d´Affaires also read out Prime Minister´s message on Vishwa Hindi Divas. The films on Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 sent by Ministry was shown during the occasion.
As part of the celebration, a member of the Indian community, Mrs. Pramila Srivastava recited a poem on ‘Hindi’ which also touched upon the ‘Pravasi’ life. The Cultural Centre of the Mission had started over a year ago with Hindi language classes. Over 70 Peruvians have registered for these classes. Some of these students shared with the audience, in Hindi, their inspiration for learning the language as well as their experience in that process.
