Mass Yoga Practice in Lima on the International Day of Yoga 2017.

 

International Day of Yoga 2017 was celebrated in Lima at Domos Art, Costa Verde on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Lima, Peru on 24 June 2017 with the participation of almost 50 Yoga schools, Peruvian public institutions, the Indian community, diplomats and around 10000 yoga enthusiasts from all over Lima.

Among the dignitaries who attended were the Ms. Patricia Garcia, Minister of Health of Peru, Ms. Cecilia Tait, former Congresswoman and Volleyball player and Olympic Silver Medallist of Peru and Yoga Ambassador of the Embassy for IDY 2017, Ms. Maria de Carmen Sacasa and UN Resident Coordinator. The programme started with the Ganesh Stuti and Saraswati Vandana by members of the Vedika Institute, Lima. This was followed by the lamp lighting by the dignitaries present.  Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty welcomed the dignitaries and the huge gathering of yoga enthusiasts to the IDY celebrations. The Minister of Health of Peru in her address welcomed and appreciated the efforts of the Government of India to bring Yoga into peoples’ lives all over the world.  Ms. Cecilia Tait, former Congresswoman of Peru and Ambassador of IDY 2017 shared her personal story of how Yoga helped her in the fight against cancer. The UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Maria Sacasa and Mr. Chuah Teong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia also spoke about the importance of Yoga.

 


Mass practice of Common Yoga Protocol at IDY 2017 in Lima

 

Mass practice of Common Yoga Protocol was conducted for over 45 minutes for the huge gathering by Dr. Aayam Gupta, Yoga Teacher at the Embassy, Ms. Ingrid Rodriguez and Dr. Jose Pinedo of Lima Yoga This was followed by a performance of Natya Yoga by Gopesvara Dance School of Peru. Mr. Alexander Martinez of Art of Living conducted mass meditation for those present. The official celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks for all the numerous yoga schools, public and private organisations and volunteers who joined together enthusiastically to make the event a success. The celebrations and yoga practices, however, continued throughout the day including special sessions for different categories such as children and others on the sidelines. More than 10,000 people participated in the entire event. The celebrations ended with rendering of bhajans and Shanti Mantras.
