Conference on “Yoga and Public Health for Inclusive Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) as per UN Agenda 2030”


Centro Cultural India organized a conference on “Yoga and Public Health” with focus on integrating Yoga in the projects related to SDG’s in the context of UN developmental Agenda 2030 focussing on People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Vijay Kumar Kukreja, Charge d' affaires on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm and witnessed an active participation of about 60 representatives from civil society and government institutions notably the largest Public Health Insurance Agency of Peru with provisions of social insurance for complementary medicine (ESSALUD) and Red Sida Network of thirteen Non-Governmental Organizations of Peru (RSP), which have committed to work jointly in the response to HIV-AIDS in the country and in the region ( Other invited guests were from non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) working for Children, Adults and Elderly; representatives from Corporate sector, Yoga Schools; entrepreneurs and Yoga Professionals from Peru, who have recently appeared for Yoga Certification exams conducted by quality Council of India.

Three resource persons deliberated during the proceedings as follows-
⦁ Dr. Martha Villar, Head of the Complementary Medicine Wing of ESSALUD, gave a presentation on the unmet needs and challenges in Public Health in Peru and how evidence-based Yoga can be an option of Health Care in Public Health System in Peru.

⦁ Mr. Alberto Casas, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FAIS Peru and one of the seventeen UN Ambassadors for SDG’s in Peru, gave a presentation on the concept of inclusion in the context of SDG’s of the 2030 Agenda and the importance of 2030 Agenda in our lives. He was assisted by Ms. Galia Llerena Velasco.

⦁ Dr. Aayam Gupta, Director of Centro Cultural India, who is also a qualified Public Health Professional and Yoga teacher. He deliberated on role of Yoga for contribution to global goals and was assisted by Mr. Esteban Gabriel Pusarelli from Art of Living Foundation, Peru.
The prospective collaborators (Public Health Professionals interested in the application of Traditional and Complementary Health Systems in Public Health) were also invited to submit proposals related to International Day of Yoga 2018 by February 2018.
