4th International Day of Yoga: 2018.


As you are aware, the United Nations Organizations General Assembly adopted the Resolution to declare 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 11 December 2014.  A record number of 177 countries, including Peru, co-sponsored the Resolution that was in compliance with a proposal made by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, in his speech to the 69th UNGA.

 

Ever since, the entire world is celebrating this day with huge and enthusiastic participation. Yoga is an ancient gift to humanity and has been transmitted from one generation to another for the welfare of humanity. It has entered into our everyday lives and has aroused a worldwide awakening and acceptance in the last few decades. The science of Yoga and its techniques, which aims to improve or develop one’s inherent power in a balanced manner, have now been reoriented to suit modern social needs and lifestyles. Yoga offers solutions to modern-day ailments of stress, depression and isolation and helps in gaining concentration, peace and happiness.  Experts of various branches of medicine including modern medical sciences are realizing the role of these techniques in the prevention and mitigation of diseases and promotion of health.

 

As people who inherited great tradition and practices, it is natural for Peru and Bolivia to join India in making Yoga part of every-day life. The people of Peru and Bolivia along with Yoga professionals and enthusiasts have been participating enthusiastically and in large numbers in the International Day of Yoga celebrations being organised every year since 2015.

 

In Peru, this year the International Day of Yoga 2018 is being organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Miraflores at the Maria Reiche Park in Miraflores, Lima on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.   

 

On Wednesday, June 20, 2018 the two ancient civilizations and cultures of India and Peru will again join hands at the Sacred City of Caral at “Sitio Archeologico Caral” at 11.30am to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.

 

In Bolivia, IDY 2018 will be celebrated in Cochabamba on June 17 at Olympic club, in Santa Cruz at Plaza 24 de Setiembre on June 21 and in La Paz on June 24 at Jardin Botanico.
