4th International Day of Yoga Celebrated at Caral Archeological Complex of the
Oldest Civilization in America


The 4th International Day of Yoga 2018 was celebrated on 20 June, 2018 in the Caral Valley, which was the seat of America’s oldest civilization dating back to 3000 BC, in association with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Peru, Provincial Government of Barranca and Yoga Professionals. Yoga practitioners, professionals and local people, including school children in huge numbers took part in this public Yoga event with great enthusiasm and renewed interest.

Mayor of Barranca province Mr. José Elgar Marreros and Director of the Caral Archeological Complex Dr. Ruth Shady along with other authorities of Ministry of Culture and provincial governments joined the celebrations.

 

In his opening remarks, Ambassador of India elaborated how people are embracing Yoga for better, peaceful and harmonious living and called on all participants to make practicing Yoga part of their daily lives. He noted that it was most befitting to celebrate the 5000-year old Yoga, a precious gift to humanity from the ancient Indian tradition, at the seat of 5000-year old civilization that prospered in the Caral Valley in perfect harmony with nature.

 

He also mentioned various efforts being made by the Embassy through its AYUSH Information Cell and Cultural Centre to propagate Yoga as a mass movement. It trained 31 Peruvian Yoga Professions. The Peruvian dignitaries in their speeches highlighted the parallel civilizations that India and Peru inherited and appealed to people in Peru to practice Yoga for its valuable benefits.

A publication on Common Yoga Protocol translated into Spanish and Quechua languages by AYUSH Information Cell was circulated on the occasion. Certificates were presented to Yoga professionals trained by AYUSH Information Cell and certified by Ministry of AYUSH. 

 

Dr. Aayam Gupta, Director of Indian Cultural Centre together with newly trained professionals conducted the Common Yoga Protocol. The event concluded with Shanti Mantras.
