Celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vishwa Hindi Divas on 9th January, 2019.

 

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vishwa Hindi Divas were celebrated at a special function organized at the Embassy on January 9, 2019.  The event was attended by Indian diaspora in Peru, friends of India, guests interested in Hindi and other languages, Indian culture, tradition and ancient practices etc. Winners from Peru in the first round of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz Competition were felicitated.

The celebrations started with the chanting of mantras by a group of Peruvian students of the Embassy’s Centro Culture India (CCI).  Ambassador briefed the gathering about the 15th PBD Convention to be held in Varanasi from 21 - 23 January with "Role of Indian Diaspora in building New India" as its theme and special arrangements made for participation in Kumbh Mela and Republic Day Parade. Prime Minister’s invitation letter to the members of the Indian community to participate in the 2019 PBD Convention was read out. The Indian community in Peru was urged to participate in this year’s special Convention.

3. Ambassador talked about various procedural & policy initiatives undertaken by the Government of India to strengthen engagement with Indian diaspora.  He also outlined special measures taken recently for the welfare, safety and security of Indian nationals abroad. Pointing out innovative steps taken to simplify policies and procedures, he mentioned as to how the network of Passport Offices and Passport Seva Kendras has undergone an unprecedented expansion in the country and how the visa policy is being liberalized continuously, including business visits and medical treatment in India under e-Visa scheme.

 

4. Progress achieved under various flagship and mission-mode programmes was underlined pointing out that they generated huge opportunities for Indian diaspora to contribute to the building of a New India. Impressive progress made so far under the Swachh Bharat Mission was mentioned. A delegation from Peru attended the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention held in India in September/October 2018. The ongoing celebrations to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi were mentioned.   

 

5. President of Indian community in Peru, Shri Pramod Mittal gave a fascinating story of Indian Diaspora in Peru and explained how Indians were treated with affection and love in Lima. Other prominent members of the community, including Shri Manoj Punjabi narrated special poems in Hindi penned for the occasion and shared impressions.

6. Ambassador talked about various initiatives taken by Government of India to promote Hindi language abroad, including sponsorship of foreign students to study in India, financial support for teaching Hindi locally, opening of Hindi Chairs with ICCR’s support, establishment of World Hindi Secretariat, organizing World Hindi Conference, regional Hindi conferences, etc.  Referring to growing use of Hindi in Lima, he listed different activities at the Embassy for learning Hindi, Sanskrit, Indian art, Yoga, Ayurveda India culture and philosophy. Ambassador invited Indian community and Peruvian nationals to utilize the facilities at the Embassy and its Centro Culture India.

 

7. Various activities including reciting of poems and short write ups in Hindi, demonstration of Yoga, cultural performances by the students of Cultural Centre were part of the celebrations.

8. On this occasion, the winners of the first round of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz Competition under both NRI and Foreign National categories were presented with gifts acknowledging their performance in the First Round.
