New Passport in lieu of expired passports
On the normal expiry of the validity
of a passport, a fresh passport is issued for a full-validity
of 10-years. The applicant can choose between a 36-page
booklet or a 60-page booklet. The application can be
made from one year prior to the expiry date of the old
passport. The following documents are required for this
service:
-
Application form for New Passport [168 kb. *.doc],
complete in all respects. The application
form has to be signed at three different places
(plus on pasted photograph), including the declaration.
Without this, no service can be rendered..
- Old Passport in Original.
- The corresponding fees (US$ 40 for 36 pg booklet and US$ 50 for
60 pg booklet).
- In case the passport has expired for more than
6 months, a statement explaining the reasons for
the delay in application. In case of further over-expiry,
other documentation may be required.
In case the passport has not been issued
from this Embassy, clearance would be required from
the original Passport Issuing Authority. This can take upto 30 days. In the interim, the old
passport (if still valid) can be returned to the applicant.
In exceptional cases, a short validity passport (1 year)
would be issued to the applicant to travel urgently,
which has to be renewed to full validity subsequently.
The charges for the short validity passport is the same
as that of the full validity one and there are no charges
for subsequent renewal.
