Children's passport

This section applies to children whose both parents are Indian nationals. In case one of the parents in not an Indian national or in cases of divorced / single parents or other such cases, please contact the Consular section directly.

 
Note: As per Indian citizenship law, a child born abroad is entitled to Indian citizenship if either the mother or the father was an Indian national at the time of birth. .
 

It is now compulsory for each child to have a separate passport even if his / her name had previously been included in the mother's Passport. The validity of a child passport is for 5 years or until the child reaches the age of 18, whichever is earlier. However, children over the age of 15 can apply for normal 10-year validity passport.

A. In case the child already holds a separate passport that has expired, the following documents are required:

Application form for New Passport [168 kb. *.doc] complete in all respects. The child's signature or thumb impression must be given in the space provided for specimen signatures. The form has to be signed in other designated places by the child or the parents / guardians. One such signature must be across the photograph pasted on page 1 of the form. However, the declaration on page 4 must be signed by the parents or guardians.

(In case of guardian, other sworn affidavits are required to be submitted - please contact the Consular Section directly).

Fee of US$ 25.

B. In case the child's name already figures in the mother's passport, the following documents are required:

Application form for New Passport [168 kb. *.doc] complete in all respects. The child's signature or thumb impression must be given in the space provided for specimen signatures. The form has to be signed in other designated places by the child or the parents / guardians. One such signature must be across the photograph pasted on page 1 of the form. However, the declaration on page 4 must be signed by the parents or guardians.
(In case of guardian, other sworn affidavits are required to be submitted - please contact the Consular Section directly).

The mother's passport in original. This will be returned.

Birth Certificate of the child along with a photocopy (the Original will be returned).

3 photographs, one of which is to be pasted on page 1 of the form and signed half on the photograph and half on the form by the child or parent.

Fee of US$ 25.

Fee of US$ 10 for deletion of name of child.

C. In case the child does not have a passport i.e he / she was born in Peru / Bolivia, the following documentation would be required:

Application form for New Passport [168 kb. *.doc] complete in all respects. The child's signature or thumb impression must be given in the space provided for specimen signatures. The form has to be signed in other designated places by the child or the parents / guardians. One such signature must be across the photograph pasted on page 1 of the form. However, the declaration on page 4 must be signed by the parents or guardians.
(In case of guardian, other sworn affidavits are required to be submitted - please contact the Consular Section directly).

Birth Certificate of the child along with photocopy (the Original will be returned). The birth should already have been registered in the Embassy of India in Lima within 1 year of the birth of the child (7 years if the parents were born in India).

Consent of both parents : Both parents need to sign the declaration at Col 27 and 28 on page 5 of the application form. If this is not possible, the consent of the other parent (or both parents jointly if need be) in the form of a sworn affidavit [20,5 kb. *.doc] (or similar to this), duly attested on letterhead / stamp paper by the nearest Indian Mission or a notary in India, is required.

Passports of both parents in original (these will be returned). If sworn affidavit as consent is being given, a photocopy of that parent will do.

Fee of US$ 25 (not including the fee for affidavits, if any).

 
Warning: As per Peruvian law, any child born in Peru must have a Peruvian passport till age of 18, when the child is allowed to choose Peruvian or foreign nationality. Parents are therefore requested to check with the Peruvian Immigration before applying for Indian passports in order to avoid subsequent problems. A child born to Indian parents in Peru and obtaining a Peruvian passport, can opt for an Indian passport at the age of 18 after renouncing his Peruvian citizenship. Please contact the Embassy directly for such cases.
 

D. The application for the passport is being made at a Passport Issuing Authority in India but one of the parents (or both) live in Peru / Bolivia. In such cases, the consent affidavit can be attested at this Embassy. Please contact the Embassy directly for such cases.
