Emergency Certificates

Emergency Certificates are short validity documents valid only for a single journey to a destination in India. They can, however, be made out with one transit halt for any International Airport. Only one halt is permitted and the purpose is for the applicant to connect to a flight that takes him to India, where he can apply for a fresh passport. Emergency Certificate is normally issued when a passport is lost / stolen abroad while the holder is returning to India. They are also issued to persons deported by foreign Governments. No Emergency Certificate will be issued till the person's proof of citizenship has been identified.

The following documents are required:

Special Application form [21,5 kb. *.doc], duly completed in all respects.

Proof of Indian citizenship, preferably a photocopy of the lost passport if available. If not, at least the old passport Number and place & date of issue.

FIR or Police Report recording the loss of passport.

Four (4) photographs.

Ticket/ itinerary for travel to India.

Fee of US$ 5.

Emergency certificates are normally issued in person to the applicant only.
