Requirements and fees related to the processing of visas are subject to change without notice. Changes may include, but are not limited to, changes in embassy consular fees, processing procedures, application forms and documentation required for visa issuance.

New rule - Tourist visas
‘There should be a gap of at least 2 months between two visits to the country on a Tourist Visa. In case of requirement to visit the country within 2 months, permission should be sought from the Head of Mission concerned. In such cases, registration would be required within 14 days of arrival. Permit to Re-enter Within 2 Months - India Visa Requirements
This category only applies to current Tourist Visa holders who need a permit which will allow the applicant to re-enter India within 2 months after last leaving India. This permit is granted only if the need is urgent, and not for Business Activities/Employment or pursuing studies/research, etc.

If the visa holder is traveling to multiple countries on the same itinerary, no permit is needed as long as trip follows the itinerary exactly. The visa holder must carry a copy of the itinerary to show the Immigration Officer.
If a permit is granted, registration with the FRRO is required within 14 days of arriving in India.

1.     Application: Complete the India Visa Application. After the application has been completed, you must print and sign the application.

2.     Passport: Passport must have a minimum validity of six months from the date of application with at least two blank visa pages. Last 2 amendment pages are not acceptable. Must be the actual passport not a copy because your visa will be stamped in the actual passport.

3.     Proof of Address: Applicants must submit a photocopy with proof of residence/address that matches the address on the visa application exactly. Photocopy of state issued ID (Driver License or ID), or major utility bill (Water, Gas, Electric, Sewage) must be submitted.

The following items are not accepted as proof of address: cell phone bill, credit card statement, bank statement or lease. The address cannot include a P.O. box.
Minor applicants must have a copy of both parents State Issued ID or Passports.
If you don't bring a copy, we will make a photocopy for you for $2.00.

4.     Reentry Permission Form: One copy of the reentry permission form. This form will generate automatically as a part of the application process. After printing, answer the questions not covered by the online application form, and then sign. A blank form is available here: Put link to the attached word document

5.     Copy of Birth Certificate: A photocopy of the birth certificate. You should not send the original birth certificate - we cannot be responsible for original documents. For Non-Peru/Bolivia born applicants that do not have their birth certificate, provide a copy of a document issued by Government authorities. This document could be an old (not current) passport or a school leaving certificate etc., provided it shows their personal particulars like name, date of birth, parents names, and nationality. If you don't bring a copy, we will make a photocopy for you for $2.00.

6.     Short Term Visa Holders: Applicants who are not citizens/residents of Peru and hold a tourist or other short-term visa for Peru should normally apply for Indian visas in the country of their permanent residence. In case of emergency or special circumstance, an application could be made at the Indian Embassy in Lima or Consulates General of India in Bolivia. In addition to the relevant visa fee there is a reference fee of $20.00 for reference to be made to the country of their original residence. The processing time in such cases is usually 5-7 working days. (Non Peruvian/Bolivian Citizens - Short Term Visa Holders Only)

7.     Dual Citizenship: Applicants who have dual citizenship with Peru/Bolivia and another country must apply on their Peruvian/Bolivian passport if living in Peru/Bolivia. (Non Peruvian/Bolivian Citizens Only)

Apart from the above requirements, the Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents like certificate of work, letter from employer, financial status statements, etc. on a case to case basis.

¿Who need visas?

Violation of visa rules, including overstay, indulging in activities not allowed by the purpose of the visa, non-registration, etc. are treated very seriously and may lead to fines, debarment from future entry and even detention and imprisonment.

Nationals of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are governed by special visa regimes and are requested to contact the consular section directly for visa and the visa fees given in the section are not applicable to such persons.

For diplomatic and official passport holders, special visa regime is applicable this may be found out from the consular section directly.

The list of countries with which India has visa free agreement for exemption of visa to diplomatic and official Passports is given below ( list here )

All visas are valid from the date of issue. The purpose of a visa, once issued, cannot be changed later.

Documents presentation and personal interview: Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 11:45 (it does not require previous appointment). Visa delivery: Monday to Friday from 16:00 to 17:00

General Requirements

All visa applications require a completed visa application form [21.1 kb. *.pdf, The form is in PDF format,
To view pdf file Acrobat Reader is needed
(photocopies can also be used). Application forms can also be obtained by fax.

  1. The passport, in original, which must be valid for more than 6 months from the date of application of visa.
  2. International Yellow fever certificate, taken at least 10 days before entry into India
  3. One passport size colour photograph.
  4. Copy of complete flight reservation/flight bookings or e-ticket
  5. Completed and signed visa application form.
  6. The corresponding visa fees - to be paid only in US Dollars.
  7. If applicant is not a Peruvian or Bolivian national, other requirements have to be fulfilled.
  8. Hotel reservations in India

    If you are not Peruvian/Bolivian citizen there are additional requirements and has to fulfill besides visa application form an additional form: foreigners/dual nationality.

    Notes:

    • The person (in India or Peru) that pays for the trip must proove of his/her economic solvency or source of incomes by showing the documentation above mentioned (points 6, 7) or he/she must present a declaration dully signed and attested by a Notary in which he/she takes the responsibility for the trip and lodging expenses of the applicant as well as repatriation expenses in case the visitor stays illegally in India or does not have enough funds to come back to his/her country.  Visa applicant must sign the declaration dully legalized by a notary.
    • Copies of documents which originals have not been pre-checked in advanced will not be accepted.    
    • Issue of special visas is subject to authorization of Indian Authorities so limit time are not defined for these cases.
    • In case of Peruvian/Bolivian passports 3 working days is required as minimum for issuance of visas once they are approved. Time might vary.

However, apart from all above, the Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents like bank statements, letter from employer, etc. on a case by case basis.

Note: Validity of the visa starts on the date of issue.

Types of Visas

Visa Types and documents required
The following types of visas can be granted. For detailed information about visas, you may contact the Indian Embassy, Lima.

Tourist

  1. Valid up to six month as from the date of issue, multiple entries
  2. It is not renewable
  3. Regular Requirements

 

Transit

  1. Valid up to 15 days as from the date of issue, one entry or double
  2. Maximum permanence in the country: 72 hours per entry
  3. Passengers in transit due to flight connections that stay in the international transit area does not require visa nevertheless passengers who remains in this area will not be allow to leave the area.
  4.  Regular Requirements

 

Student

  1. Validity as per each case as from the date of issue
  2. Besides Regular requirements to present admission letter from the educational school/institution duly recognized by the Government of India.
  3. In case of religious studies, applicants must accomplish with special requirements that could be obtained in the Embassy. Visa could take longer time due to various official procedures.

 

Business

  1. Valid up to 1 year as from the date of issue.
  2. Besides regular requirements to present an invitation letter issued by the Indian company dully signed by an Indian Notary and a presentation letter from the company (that the applicant works in) in Peru, in English
  3. Certificate of Registration in recognized Chamber(s) of Commerce
  4. New: Only foreigners residents in Peru or Bolivia during more than two years can apply to a business visa in this Embassy. Foreigners that do not fulfill this requirement must apply to the business visa in their country of origin or residence. Employment

  1. Validity as per the case may be.
  2. Besides regular requirements it must be presented an original employment agreement signed by both parties and a letter in English from the local company you are working with
  3. New: only foreigners living in Peru or Bolivia for more than two years can apply for a Business visa in this Mission. Foreigners that do not accomplish this requirement must apply for the employment visa in their country of origin or residence. Oficcial/Diplomatic

  1. Besides regular requirements to present a Note Verbal issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru/Bolivia or from the respective Diplomatic Mission
  2. To seek the advice of the Mission on Bilateral Agreements regarding official visits.

 

Journalist

  1. It is issued to prepare news notes in India. Besides regular requirements, to seek the advice of the Mission on the special requirements.
  2. Note: All journalists must apply to this visa type, including on tourism trips
  3. Valid up to 3 months, one only entry.

 

 

UN Official

 

  1. Besides regular requirements to present a Note Verbal issued by the United Nations Office. 

Conference

  1. It is issued to attend to international meetings in India (Conferences, Congress, Workshops, Seminars, etc.)
  2. Besides regular requirements to present an invitation letter of the event organizer in India and presentation letter in English from the local company you are working in.
  3. If it is necessary applicant must also present a copy of the authorization issued by the Government of India to invite foreigners to the conference. It must be mentioned that in most cases it is necessary to present this approval letter. Event organizers can help visa applicants to obtain this authorization document.

 

Research

  1. It is issued to make investigations in various fields in India.
  2. Besides regular requirements there are other requirements. For more information please contact the Embassy.
  3. For the issuance of this type of visa it is required an authorization from India. Approval may require more time due to official procedures.

 

Diplomatic Conferences

  1. Besides regular requirements to present a Note Verbal issued by the respective Diplomatic Mission.

 

Other Visas

  1. Other types of visa could be obtained depending upon each case and the visa purpose. In order to receive necessary information please contact the Embassy.
  2. Indian origin persons can apply for a multiple entry visa up to for 5 years.
  3. Expertise and technicians who travel for projects of bilateral agreements or joint ventures with a Government approval can also apply for a multiple entry visa up to for 5 years, as long as their permanence in India is no longer than 180 days (6 months).

 

Visa of Emergency

For urgent visa (Only for Peruvians/Bolivians passports)
there is an additional fee of US$25.00.
 (Subject to an evaluation).

Note: Embassy of India is not responsible for delay in visa delivery because of delays due to postal service, courier, etc.

Indian passports are usually issued with validity for 10 years after completion of required formalities. In respect of children up to the age of 18 years passports are issued for period of 5 years or eighteen years of age whichever is earlier.
Short validity passports i.e. for a period of 1 year are issued in the case of genuine urgency. However, the validity of such passports can be extended up to 10 years from the date of issue after due formalities without any charge.

For non-Peruvian / Bolivian nationals

Visas are normally issued to Peruvian and Bolivian nationals. However, other nationals can also apply for Indian visas at this Embassy. In such cases, visa issuance will take at least 4 working days more and applicants will have to pay an additional US$ 10 (included in the visa fees) as fax charges for authorization. The applicants also have to fill up an additional form [40 kb. *.doc] and present a copy of residence permit / Carnet de Extranjeria. In case of double nationality, a copy of the Peruvian passport is also required.

Persons not living in Peru / Bolivia (but present in these countries on short visits) have to send a separate letter explaining why they are applying for the visas in this Embassy and not at the Indian Mission in their country of domicile.

Nationals of the United States of America are entitled to 10-year multiple entry tourist and business visas, with the proviso that each stay does not exceed 180 days (6 months).

Visits to restricted and protected areas

Certain areas in India like Sikkim, areas in the north-east, etc have been designated as protected area or restricted area. Entry of foreigners to such areas is limited to certain tourist locations only. For such tourist visits, special permits (Restricted Area Permit / Protected Area Permit) are required, which are issued by the Embassy. In addition, special rules like group travel, etc are in force in certain locations. The permits are issued without any additional fee. For applying for such permits, the following additional documents are required:

Completed application form. The form can be obtained by fax from the Embassy.
  One photograph

It may be mentioned that all military areas or installation are also protected areas in India.

Fees (including fax costs, if any)

For urgent visa (Peruvian passports only), an additional amount of US$25.00 would be charged. Urgency to be decided by the Embassy on a case to case basis on individual merit.

In addition to the above-mentioned amounts, the Bolivian applicants have to pay US$ 13 for bank commission and US$ 32 for courier service (per each application file).  The Bolivian applicants may also make use of pre-paid courier service for the delivery and return of passport from and to Lima.

Registration

All persons who hold visas of the type "Student", "Research" and "Employment" which are valid for more than 180 days (6 months) have to get themselves registered with the nearest Foreign Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival in India.

For all other types of visas which are valid for more than 180 days (6 months) registration is required if the person plans to stay more than 180 days on any single visit. This registration should be done at the earliest but definitely before expiry of 180 days from the date of entry into India.

Fines

Violation of visa rules, including overstay, indulging in activities not allowed by the purpose of the visa, non registration, etc. are treated very seriously and will lead to fines, debarment from future entry and even detention and imprionment.

For non-registration in time, there is a fine of US$ 30, which will be charged while leaving India or even at a future entry into India.

For overstay in India than the time permitted as per the visa, there is a fine of US$ 30, which will be charged while leaving India or while applying for a new visa. However, cases of long overstay may lead to the denial of the future visa or even imprisonment.
